One-time NFL Athlete Antonio Brown Files Not Guilty Plea in Murder Attempt Trial
One-time NFL star Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to face an attempted murder allegation related to a gunfire that took place in May, with his lawyer submitting a not guilty response on his behalf.
Correctional logs in Essex, New Jersey, reveal that Brown was freed on Tuesday early for his relocation to the state of Florida. Brown, a highly popular athletes in the NFL, had waived extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was taken after being apprehended in Dubai.
Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an communication that he has already lodged a written innocent plea to the murder attempt charge. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as soon as Wednesday early for a release session, Eiglarsh said.
According to his apprehension warrant, Brown is alleged of taking a firearm from a protection employee after a public figure boxing event in May and shooting a couple of rounds at a person he had fought with previously. The claimed victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told police that one shot scraped his neck.
Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was merely safeguarding himself from Nantambu.
“The actions he was compelled to take were solely in self-defense against the reported victim’s violent behavior. Brown was targeted that night and responded within his lawful entitlement to safeguard himself,” Eiglarsh stated.
Brown was not immediately detained because initially police did not consider Nantambu as a victim. It not until subsequently in May that Nantambu gave a full account about the incident to authorities and pointed out Brown as the gunman, the document indicates.
From his digital posts, Brown had been staying in Dubai for several weeks. In a message after the confrontation, Brown claimed he was protecting himself because he was “jumped by multiple people who attempted to take my valuables and bring physical injury to me.”
A level two attempted murder accusation in the state of Florida carries a highest 15-year prison penalty and up to a ten thousand dollar fee in the case of a finding.
Brown has dealt with multiple court issues over the years. He before had been alleged of battery of a delivery driver, various domestic violence allegations, neglect to pay family payments and additional occurrences.
In a recent match with the Buccaneers against the Jets, Brown stripped off his uniform, equipment and gloves and ran off the arena, resulting in his release by the Buccaneers and virtually ending his football tenure.
